BURTON—Cardinal lived up to its No. 1 seed in downing Grand Valley in a Division III district semifinal on Wednesday, 3-0.
The Huskies won the match 25-18, 25-11, 25-21 to advance to Saturday’s district championship match for the first time since 2014.
“It was such an exciting win,” Cardinal coach Karisca Chambers said. “Grand Valley is tough, so I knew this game was going to be intense.”
Camille Cummins posted 10 kills and 11 digs in the win while Kaylee Klepper contributed with 13 kills and five aces.
Haley Domen added 24 assists and Ashley Gubanyar finished with 13 digs.
“My girls did a nice job of being aggressive,” Chambers said. “We have to come out swinging if we want to win districts.”
The Huskies face a familiar foe in Saturday’s district championship.
To advance to the regional tournament for the first time since 1996, the Huskies will have to beat rival Berkshire on the Badgers’ home court.
Third-seeded Berkshire upset No. 2 Garrettsville Garfield on Wednesday, 3-1, to set up Saturday’s showdown.
“I’m proud of the way we played and I know we will put up a good fight in this battle to the championship,” Chambers said. “This is our year and our time. Now, we need to make it happen.”
