Cardinal got off to a slow start in its Division III district semifinal against second-seeded Grand Valley on Wednesday. The Mustangs won the first two sets then held off the Huskies, 3-1.
Independence traveled to Grand Valley on Thursday and stunned the second-seeded Mustangs with a 2-1 win in a Division III sectional championship game. Grand Valley entered the game ranked No. 10 in the state and with an undefeated record.
Injuries continued to plague the Cardinal football team as the Huskies fell to visiting Grand Valley on Friday, 44-14.
Austin Miller recorded 10 saves in leading Cardinal to a 2-0 win over visiting Grand Valley on Monday.
