    The Dec. 2 edition of Varsity Chalk Talk will preview the upcoming state football finals and the girls’ basketball season. The show will include segments with both the Kirtland and Mentor Football teams and some of the area’s top girls’ basketball teams.     North loses in sectional final

      An impressive run and a record-breaking season came to an end for North on Saturday afternoon in a Division I sectional final at Perry. Four Euclid Panthers scored in double figures, led by Rachelle White’s 14 points, as the Rangers were eliminated from the postseason, 58-50.

      Englebrecht sets North tournament scoring record

        North junior Lynsey Englebrecht scored 45 points in a sectional semifinal win over Glenville on Wednesday, breaking the school's tournament scoring record previously held by Kate Mooney, who scored 42. The school record for points in a single game belongs to Jen Peterlin, who scored 51 in a regular season game for the Rangers.

          North junior Lynsey Englebrecht scored a career-high 45 points to lead the Rangers to a 94-46 win over Glenville on Wednesday in a Division I sectional semifinal at Perry. Englebrecht scored 8 of North's new single-season high 19 3-pointers. The Rangers advanced to play Euclid on Saturday in a sectional final.

          North opens post-season play on hot streak

            North rolls into postseason play riding a 10-game winning streak. The Rangers haven’t lost since a Jan. 9 defeat at home to PAC foe Chardon. This sectional semifinal clash against Glenville is a rematch of last year’s Division I district semifinal won by the Tarblooders, 56-54, in overtime.

                Hagey, Englebrecht win 3-point shootout

                  Prom season is still a few months away, but the king and queen of Long Distance Shooting in Lake County were crowned Saturday night at Mentor High School. Mentor junior Kyle Hagey won the boys 3-point shootout and North junior Lynsey Englebrecht won the girls 3-point shootout at halftime of the Harlem Legends vs. Lake County All-Stars charity basketball game.

                  North rocks South for ninth straight win

                    Lynsey Englebrecht and Mackenzy Schaefer each hit four 3-pointers to lead North to a 60-35 victory over South on Saturday. The win was the ninth straight for the Rangers, who haven't lost in a month and improved to 15-6 on the year.

                    North drops Euclid in OT

                      North coach Paul Force couldn't ask for a better game to prepare his team for the upcoming Division I Perry District than Wednesday's nonconference road contest at No. 2 seed Euclid. As far as tests are concerned, the Rangers passed this one with flying colors. North outscored host Euclid by six in overtime to prevail over the Panthers, 65-59.

                      Rangers open postseason in rematch with Glenville

                        North won’t have to wait long for a chance at some payback in the Division I Perry district tournament. The Rangers will open postseason play against Glenville in a sectional semifinal on Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Last year, the Tarblooders defeated North, 56-54, in a district semi at Perry.

                        Four score in double figures as North routs Riverside

                          Any girls basketball teams out there have questions on how to make a good impression on voters heading into the district seed meeting might want to give the North Rangers a call. Coach Paul Force and company head to Sunday’s upcoming Division I Perry district tournament meeting riding a seven-game winning streak - all coming by way of blowouts. The latest romp for the Rangers came Saturday afternoon as four North players scored in double figures to spark a convincing 67-42 win over visiting Riverside.

                          North claims convincing win over Shaw

                            The North Rangers have a long-distance love affair going on right now, and in no way is that a problem for Coach Paul Force and company. North tied a school record with 15 3-pointers in a convincing 66-38 win on the road at Shaw on Wednesday night. It was the sixth straight win for the Rangers, who have hit 71 3-pointers during the streak.

                            Streaking North whips Madison

                              North avenged an early season loss to Madison with a 69-43 rout of the Blue Streaks on Saturday. The victory was the fifth straight game, all by 21 points or more as the team continues to build momentum for the upcoming Division I district tournament at Perry.

                                Team effort in big win over Brush

                                  Wednesday night was the kind of "team" victory for the North Rangers that every player wearing orange and black can look back and feel like they played a part in the win. North assisted on 25 of 28 made field goals and 11 of the 14 girls who played in the game scored in an easy 80-49 triumph over visiting Brush.

                                  North cruises past West Geauga

                                    It is said bad things come in threes, but the North Rangers found nothing but good things in the third quarter of Monday’s nonconference matchup with West Geauga. North broke open a close game at halftime by outscoring visiting West Geauga by 17 points in the third quarter en route to a 69-39 rout of the Wolverines.

                                      North's girls' basketball team was clutch down the stretch in the Rangers' 52-46 win over Geneva on Saturday. The Rangers hit 11-of-12 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

                                      Mentor tops North in Holiday Tournament final

                                        Lynsey Englebrecht hit six 3-pointers and scored 26 points, but North fell to Mentor in the finals of the Mayfield holiday tournament, 83-49. The Cardinals outscored the Rangers in each of the four quarters, and hit 36 of 71 field goals while North made 19 of 62 from the field.

                                        North juniors come up big in win over Mayfield

                                          North junior Halle McKinley, Steph Chlad, Lynsey Englebrecht and Lexi Balausky combined to score 59 points as the Rangers rallied for a 67-63 victory over Mayfield on Thursday. The Rangers overcame a 10-point second half deficit to advance to the championship game of the Mayfield Tournament.

                                            If North's girls' basketball team hopes to continue its first winning streak of the season, the Rangers are going to have to beat some of the area's top teams. North opens the Mayfield tournament on Thursday against the host Wildcats, winners of six straight games. The field includes three of the area's top ranked teams.

                                                Rangers fall to Cleveland Heights in non-conference tilt

                                                  Mackenzy Schaefer scored a season-high 12 ponits but North suffered a 53-43 loss to Cleveland Heights. The setback might not have been the worst part of the night for the Rangers as All-Ohio guard Lynsey Englebrecht suffered a wrist injury less than a minute into the game and did not return.

                                                  Rangers optimistic heading into week two

                                                    After two games the North Rangers sit at .500 with plenty of optimism heading into the second week of the 2012-2013 season. The Rangers have a pair of games this week, including a conference showdown with Geneva on Saturday that is the first of seven straight conference games.

                                                    Chardon holds off North in early season PAC showdown

                                                      North's Premier Athletic Conference opener at Chardon went down to the wire on Saturday, but it was the Rangers that came up on the short end of the 53-49 score. The Hilltoppers led by as many as 14 points before the Rangers rallied in the second half to take a one point lead. That lead was shortlived as Chardon went on another run to clinch the victory.
