Area athletes earn All-Ohio honors in Division IV & V

The Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association on Monday released its Division IV and Division V All-Ohioans and several area athletes were recognized.

Perry, a Division IV regional finalist, had several players recognized including Jake Reed, who shared the Division IV Defensive Player of the Year honors with Germantown Valley View’s Logan Hannah.

The Pirates also landed quarterback Kolston Brewer, wide receiver Jacob Allen, offensive lineman Bryce Cooper, defensive lineman Nick Mason and defensive back Cameron Rogers on the first team. Second team selections included running back Jaylen Anderson, wide receiver Tyler Horvath and defensive lineman Hayden Makad.

Orange had three players recognized including second team linebacker Pablo Garcia, third team defensive back Joey Feketa and honorable mention selection Bobby Carran.

Chagrin Falls had two players named to the second team including wide receiver Mick Lawrence and offensive lineman Connor Lewis.

Four Wickliffe players were named All-Ohio in Division V including offensive lineman Jared Szinte and punter Brad Dieterich, who were named to the second team, as well as third team selections Nick Fenton, a running back, and linebacker Nate Taylor.

Gilmour offensive lineman Tyler Leroux and defensive lineman Jack Kosar both were named to the second team in Division V while running back C.J. Charleston earned third team honors. Jack Krebs was named honorable mention.

Villa Angela-St. Joseph had three players earn All-Ohio honors. Quarterback Delanoe Harris and wide receiver Nathan Dean both were named second team and Patrick Sheridan earned honorable mention honors.

Beachwood’s Ben Conner was named third team defense and Dawann Gray was named honorable mention.

The teams were selected by members of the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association, most of whom were voters for the former Associated Press All-Ohio teams. The Associated Press no longer coordinates postseason honors for high school sports.

On Sunday, the Division VI and VII All-Ohio teams were announced. The Division II and III teams will be announced Tuesday. The Division I All-Ohio team and the Ohio Mr. Football Award will be announced Wednesday.

The creator and publisher of OhioVarsity.com, Hare has covered high school sports in Northeast Ohio since 1997. He began as a correspondent for the Lake County News Herald, where he contributed until 2011, primarily covering high school football and wrestling. In 1999, Hare began writing for IrishIllustrated.com, a member of the Scout.com network of high school and college sports web sites. He focuses on covering Notre Dame football recruiting. OhioVarsity.com was created in 2004 and was a member of the Rivals.com network until 2012. The site's original purpose was to cover Ohio high school football and recruiting news but since has grown to cover all sports and to provide sports information services to high school athletic programs and individual teams. Hare attended Willoughby South High School through the middle of his senior year, then graduated from Berkshire High School in Burton in 1986. He played football, wrestled and was an all-Geauga county baseball player (1986). He lives in Chardon with his wife Paulette and their children.
