    Ally Biondi hit two home runs and knocked in six runs in leading Independence to a 24-9 five-inning win over visiting Kirtland on Wednesday.

    The Blue Devils pounded out 13 hits including seven doubles and Biondi’s two four-baggers.

    “Our offense was on today,” Biondi said. “Our energy was very confident, and we had tons of fun out there. I am thankful to have a well-bonded team who loves to play and work together every day.”

    Kirtland got off to a good start with one run in the top of the first when Gianna DiFranco reached on an error and Kennedy Boyd singled her home.

    The Blue Devils answered with 11 runs in the bottom half of the inning on five hits.

    Paige Priebe reached on an error and scored on a passed ball. Brooke Vollman walked and Macey McGhee reached on an error. Biondi followed with the first of her two dingers, this one a three-run shot.

    Bryanna LeRoy and McGhee both hit RBI doubles in the inning that saw 16 Blue Devils step to the plate.

    Kirtland put together a big inning of its own on the way to a five-run second.

    Grace Svigel walked, Karli DiFranco doubled, and DiFranco hit a two-run single. Boyd followed with a two-run single that cut the Independence lead to 11-6.

    Independence added four more runs in the bottom half of the inning.

    Mia Whieldon started the rally by being hit by a pitch and Camryn Mazzola walked. LeRoy followed with an RBI single, Priebe reached on an error that allowed Mazzola to score, and Keely Sears added an RBI double later in the inning.

    Kirtland posted three runs in the top of the third, but the Blue Devils closed out the scoring with nine runs in the bottom half of the inning.

    Biondi’s second homer came with two runners on base.

    “I was very happy to contribute that many runs and excited to hit my first two home runs of the season,” she said. “I had a lot of fun up at the plate and hope to continue that in the rest of our games.”

    Vollman, McGhee, Rebecca Gibson, and LeRoy each finished the game with two hits. Priebe, Vollman, Sears, Mazzola, and LeRoy each doubled. McGhee collected two doubles in the win.

    Gibson earned the pitching victory. She allowed eight earned runs on 11 hits in five innings.

    Boyd, Addison Fleming, and Karli DiFranco led Kirtland with three hits. Fleming homered and knocked in two runs. Boyd posted a team-high three RBI.

    Independence travels to Cuyahoga Heights on Thursday while Kirtland heads to Wickliffe.
