Bison sweep Skippers to improve to 9-3

    -

Beachwood’s volleyball team has experienced the peaks and valleys all teams go through. Fortunately for the Bison, there have been more peaks than valleys.

The Bison swept Fairport Harding on Wednesday to improve to 9-3 on the year.

“We were flat today but they were able to work through it and still come out and win,” said first year coach Sarah Schoenhagen.

Beachwood won the first set 25-23 then won the next two 25-20 to complete the sweep.

For the Bison, the constant issue has been maintaining a high level of intensity throughout the match.

“They know it,” Schoenhagen said. “They can feel it. We won the second set but you could tell by the look on their faces, it looked like we were down. They know it and they’re working through it.”

Shaneice James and Valisha Watkins continue to pace the Bison attack. James finished with four kills, three blocks, six digs and four aces. Watkins posted six kills, four digs and three aces.

Jada Stevens contributed with 12 digs, four aces and two kills.

Cameron Leathers-Clayborne had 15 assists in her role as the team’s emerging setter.

“In the first half (of the season) we were trying to figure out who we were going to have run the offense,” Schoenhagen said. “We kind of gave everyone a shot. Cameron right now is the one stepping up and now we want to try to build some consistency in the second half of the season.”

Beachwood hosts the Bison Invitational on Saturday.
