    Blue Devils advance to state finals in multiple events

    COLUMBUS—Independence athletes advanced to the finals round in multiple events at the 2022 OHSAA Division III State Track & Field Championships.

    Senior Emmett Stralka will compete in Saturday’s finals in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and he’ll also compete in the 4×200-meter relay.

    Stralka set a new personal record of 22.24 seconds to finish with the third-best time in the 200-meter dash preliminary heats. He also finished with the fourth-fastest time of 10.99 seconds in the 100-meter dash.

    He also anchored the 4×200 relay team to a top time in the prelims of 1:30.24. Kyle Zygmunt, Jack Taliaferro, and Lucas Martinez also ran in that event.

    Zygmunt advanced to Saturday’s finals in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.37 seconds, the eighth-fastest time in the two preliminary heats.

    Sophomore Casey Adams closed out her state tournament with a 10th-place finish in the long jump with a best leap of 16-feet, 7 ½-inches.
