Adam Leibel recorded a hat trick and Seamus Kral and Sam Belitz both scored a pair of goals to lead Independence to a 10-1 win over host Open Door Academy on Monday.
The Blue Devils, who improved to 6-0, have now outscored their six opponents, 45-4.
“We battled through a muddy field and long grass to create some scoring chances,” said Independence coach Ryan MacRaild. “It was nice to get goals from three guys that haven’t scored, but usually we cap it at nine and mistakenly scored a 10th. It’s also great to get our young guys playing time.”
Christian Streibel scored his first goal of the season in the win and freshmen Aidan Coljohn and Casey McGhee both found the back of the net for the first time in their young careers.
Belitz and Elek McDonald both contributed with a pair of assists and Jimmy Senick and Brad Watroba both had one.
Leibel credited his midfielders for setting up his three goals.
“The great distribution from Sam and Elek in the midfield as well as the other midfielders and forwards makes scoring and getting looks at the goal a lot easier,” he said. “Scoring three goals today helps boost my confidence in scoring goals the rest of the season.”
Independence hosts Lake Ridge Academy on Thursday.
