Eichler ties career-low in win over Lutheran West

Independence’s David Eichler tied his career-low score in leading the Blue Devils to a 162-193 win over host Lutheran West at Red Tail Golf Club on Wednesday.

“It was very exciting for me because I’ve been struggling throughout the beginning of the season and it feels good to contribute to the team,” Eichler said.

Eichler shot a 41 due in large part to his success hitting greens in regulation and limiting his putts.

“My irons and putting were working very well for me today,” he said. “I was putting the ball close with my irons and I kept my putts to two or less all day.”

Mark Pillar claimed medalist honors with a match-low 36. A.J. Marcinko also shot a 41 and Sam Coddington closed out the Independence scoring with a 44.

Charlie DeCapua (46) and Sam Spacagna (50) also competed for the Blue Devils.

With another strong score under his belt, Eichler is heading into the backstretch of the season with a lot of confidence and determination.

“From this round, I learned that I can shoot well on a tough course and that gives me more confidence going into the tougher courses later in the season,” he said.
