Geneva won both the boys’ and girls’ races at the 2018 Grand Valley Invitational on Tuesday. Cardinal and Kirtland also turned in strong performances at the meet.

Led by Forrest Long, who finished second with a time of 18:08, Geneva placed six runners among the top 10 in the boys’ race. Jacob Mirabell (18:11) finished third, Jacob Robinson (18:29) was fifth, Alex Reese (18:54) finished seventh, Jesse McElroy (19:22) placed eight and Devin Cerjan (19:28) was 10th.

Geneva’s Elizabeth Joy won the girls’ race with a time of 21:04. Renee Tetlow (22:15) finished fourth while Taylor Cupp and Mikayla Watts also finished among the top 10. Cupp was ninth with a time of 23:02 and Watts was 10th in 23:04.

Kirtland finished third in both races.

Konnor Duncan finished in 15th place with a time of 20:31 and Jake Grdadolnik and Nick Briggs also placed among the top 25 for the Hornets. Grdadolnik was 16th with a time of 20:36 while Briggs finished 22nd in 21:07.

Jenna Sayle finished third for the Hornets with a time of 21:58. Reilly Greenlee and Julie Namciu also medaled as they finished in eighth and 13th place, respectively. Greenlee ran the race in 23:13 while Namciu finished in 23:35.

“Jenna, Reilly, and Julie all placed in the top 15 to earn individual awards and almost led us to a team trophy as we missed runner-up honors by one spot,” said Kirtland coach JP Moran. “Konnor won an individual award for the boys and Jake was one spot away. Jenna had another great showing taking third overall and hanging with the leaders for most of the race. It was a great building block for Saturday at Cardinal.”

Cardinal’s boys’ team finished in sixth place while the girls did not score as a team.

Trevor Bachna and Gene Henrie paced the Huskies in the boys’ race. Bachna finished 21st in 20:59 while Henrie was 23rd in 21:07.

“We had a pretty good meet today,” said Cardinal coach Tyler Jones. “The boys had some good performances, but I’m most impressed with them learning to be more competitive with other teams and themselves. The girls are a little beat up right now but growing as a team none the less. Coming off of three meets in six days, we’re looking forward to getting some rest leading into our home invitational on Saturday.”
