    Huskies earn sweep, West Geauga splits on opening day

    MIDDLEFIELD–Cardinal opened the 2021 season with a sweep of West Geauga and St. John on Saturday.

    The Huskies beat the Wolverines 25-20, 25-19, and the Heralds, 25-10, 25-9.

    Senior Karalyn Rutkowski finished the two-match day with 14 kills while classmates Lauren Soltis and Lindsay Hissa recorded 10 and 9, respectively. Senior Haley Domen and junior Ronee Collins both finished the day with four service aces and senior Gabby Nemeth led the Huskies with 23 digs. Domen also posted 35 assists in the two matches.

    West Geauga salvaged a split with a 25-10, 25-21 win over St. John.

    Haley Adams is a 2016 graduate of Cardinal High School. She is currently in her third year at Hiram College with a major in Communications and a minor in Writing. Haley, a three-sport standout at Cardinal, has participated in many athletic events at Hiram and plans to become a sports broadcaster.
