Cardinal’s track teams competed at the Cuyahoga Heights tri-meet on Tuesday with the intention of preparing for next week’s Chagrin Valley Conference meet.
Head coach Greg Cicero juggled his lineup to help determine which athletes would compete in the different events at the league meet.
“It went well,” Cicero said. “It showed us a lot and helps us make some CVC decisions for us for next week. We shuffled our lineup tonight and put people in different events just to get an idea of what they can do for the future and the post-season for this year.”
Erin Ross had a big night as she finished first in the 100-meter hurdles (18.2) and the 300-meter hurdles (52.2) and helped the 4×800-meter relay team beat its season-best time by 24 seconds.
“We made her run the 4×8 tonight, which is really first time she’s ever done that and she came right back and won the 100 hurdles right after that,” Cicero said. “She ran a pretty decent 100 hurdle time and won pretty easily. I was happy with that.”
Brandon Wicks won the 110-meter hurdles (16.6) and the 300-meter hurdles (42.83) and finished second in the 100-meter dash (11.4). Kyle Simms finished second in the 110 hurdles (17.5) and also ran strong legs in the 4×100-meter and 4×200-meter relays.
“Brandon Wicks and Kyle went 1-2 in the guys’ 110 hurdles and ran close to their season best times,” Cicero said. “They both had good performances tonight.”
Jacob Revak finished second in both the 200 and 400-meter dashes. He ran a time of 24.8 seconds in the 200 and 56.1 in the 400 and also competed in the 4×200 and 4×400-meter relays.
Nate Peters finished second in both the shot put (42-1) and the discus (115-9).
“He had a really strong showing in the throws,” Cicero said. “That was his personal best in the discus and a season best in the shot.”
Caitlyn Lechene also had a good day as she finished third in the 100 (14.0) and fourth in the 200 (29.2). She also competed in the 4×100 and 4×200-meter relays.
“She’s been running the 400 and 4×4 for us most of the season,” Cicero said. “She ran a pretty strong 100 meter dash and came right back and ran a leg in the 4×2 and we threw her in the 4×1 as well. She ran a strong leg there and finished her night with her best time in the 200 this season. She had a good night.”
Hayden Cummins finished his first two-mile run in 12:05, which was best among Cardinal’s two-milers all season.
“We made him run the two-mile tonight,” Cicero said. “He ran a team-best time for the season and actually looked more comfortable than I figured he would in the two-mile. He did pretty well in that race.”
The Huskies travel to Kirtland on Thursday for a dual meet against the Hornets.
