INDEPENDENCE—The Independence High School Athletic Hall of Fame grew by three members on Saturday as Andrea Gans-Lemmer, Stephen Hitch and Shannon Moore were recognized during halftime of the Lady Blue Devils’ rivalry game against Cuyahoga Heights for their induction as members of the Hall of Fame Class of 2014.
Gans-Lemmer, who graduated in 2002, earned three varsity letters in softball and two in volleyball for the Blue Devils.
As a softball player, Gans-Lemmer was named conference MVP in 2001when she led the Blue Devils to the league title. She’s also the school’s career record holder for perfect games in a season (2) and career (2).
Gans-Lemmer finished her softball career with a 22-4 win-loss record and a 0.94 earned run average. She pitched four career no-hitters and nine shutouts.
Hitch, a 2007 Independence graduate, earned three varsity letters in football and two in basketball.
As a senior, Hitch was named a team captain for both the football and basketball squads.
A quarterback and safety, Hitch collected a handful of honors for his efforts on the gridiron. He was named first team All-Ohio and the District Offensive Player of the Year as well as Team MVP, first team all-conference and All-Sun. He also played in the East-West All-Star Game.
He was also named first team all-conference in basketball.
Moore, a 2007 graduate, became the second member of her family to be inducted into the Independence Athletic Hall of Fame. Her sister Allison was added to the Hall in 2012.
A four-year letterwinner in softball, Moore led the Blue Devils to conference championships in 2005, 2006 and 2007. She earned all-state honors in 2007 and was first team all-district as a senior. She earned first team all-conference and All-Sun honors as a junior and senior and was named team captain and team MVP in 2006 and 2007.
Moore holds a pair of school records and is among the top three in several other statistical categories. She is first in sacrifice bunts and doubles (26) and second in career batting average (.459), hits (117) and third in career RBI with 89. She is also second in school history with a .527 single season batting average.
