    Independence tees off on rival

    Independence improved to 2-0 this season with a 161-204 win over rival Cuyahoga Heights at Shawnee Hills Golf Course on Wednesday.

    Mark Pillar claimed medalist honors by shooting a match-low 37. Charlie DeCapua carded a 39, Sam Coddington shot a 41, and A.J. Marcinko closed out the scoring with a 44.

    “It was nice to beat our rival,” said Coddington. “It wasn’t my best day by shooting 41, but it got the job done.”

    Coddington had his troubles on the course but he battled through them and closed out his round with a solid score.

    “Nothing was really working today but I managed,” he said. “This round showed me I need my bad rounds to be in the high 30s.”

    Sam Spacagna (45) and David Eichler (49) also competed for the Blue Devils.

    Sharp-shooting Corrigan leads Independence past Trinity

    Hugh Corrigan won medalist honors with a match-low 42 as Independence defeated visiting Trinity at Shawnee Hills Golf Course on Wednesday, 189-224.
