Kirtland records Senior Night sweep of Fairport Harding

    -

Two Kirtland seniors sat out Tuesday’s Chagrin Valley Conference matchup with visiting Fairport Harding but the Hornets still cruised to a 3-0 sweep of the Skippers on Senior Night.

    The Hornets won 25-9, 25-7, 25-20.

“We played our seniors, it was our Senior Night, and they did a terrific job,” said Kirtland coach Bob Schenosky. “We had a couple people step up because both Taylor Frazee and Julia Ricketti were out tonight but the other girls did a great job. Lizzie Mance and Lauren Briggs were hitting strongside and they did great.”

Mance finished the game with four kills and four aces while Briggs recorded four kills and six aces.

Seniors Olivia Mancisio and Sam Bailey both were as consistent as they have been all season.

Bailey posted a team-high 111 kills and five aces while Mancisio pitched in with 10 kills and three aces.

“Olivia, out of the middle was terrific,” Schenosky said. “She just dominated the net both offensively and defensively. The jump serve was terrific tonight. She had a bunch of aces with that. I think she and Sam Bailey both did just a great job in the middle.”

The Hornets improved to 13-8 overall and will close out the regular season at Berkshire on Thursday. Kirtland earned the No. 5 seed in the Division III Leavittsburg district tournament and will open postseason play on Monday against No. 10 Conneaut.

“I’m excited about the potential of the team for the playoffs,” Schenosky said. “That’s what we’re really shooting for. I think we got a good draw.”
