    Kirtland takes two from Chalker

    -

It’s official, Kirtland is on a roll.

After opening the season with back-to-back losses the Hornets have won seven straight following Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of visiting Southington Chalker.

“They were a good team and had some nice pitching,” said Kirtland coach Tony Scibelli. “But, we’re really on a roll right now.”

The Hornets, who improved to 7-2, pounded 32 hits in the doubleheader and also got strong pitching performances out of freshmen Morgan Faber and Colleen Baldrey. The two split both games with Baldrey collecting the win in game one and Faber picking up the victory in game two.

“We were able to do a lot of different things,” Scibelli said. “That was the main thing we were looking for this year was to be more than just a power team. We’ve been able to do a lot of different things and we got a lot of timely hits. We got great performances from both of our pitchers too.”

Hallie Ward scattered the fans behind the outfield fence with her second inning home run in game two. Ward finished the day 4-for-7 with two doubles, a home run, six runs scored and five stolen bases.

Olivia Mancisio also had a big day at the plate as she finished the doubleheader 7-for-9 with two doubles, two triples and six runs scored.

Cameron Garcia collected five hits and Samantha Achauer and Danielle Meyer both had four hits for the Hornets.

    Kirtland hosts Cardinal on Monday.
