North’s Jason Reik makes college choice

Jason Reik always knew he wanted to play college basketball.

Now, the North senior will have that opportunity after committing to Ohio Northern University.

“It is very exciting to compete in college to continue the sport I have always loved and played my whole life,” Reik said. “I visited Ohio Northern and instantly felt like it was the place for me. The tour they took me on was great and it encouraged me that this was the best decision for me.”

The Ohio Northern coaching staff received Reik’s highlight tape in the fall and initiated contact.

Those conversations led to the visit and Reik immediately knew where he felt most comfortable. He also considered Mount Union, Heidelberg, and John Carroll.

Ohio Northern recruited Reik as a guard.

“The coach expects me to be a guard who can take a big role of being a spot-up shooter,” Reik said. “I have lots of confidence in my ability to execute this role for the team.

Reik already has developed a strong relationship with the ONU coaches and now he’s eager to meet his future teammates.

“I have a great relationship with the coach but I have not met any of the players,” he said. “I’m very excited to get to know all my teammates and I feel like I already fit perfectly with this group of guys.”

Wins were hard to come by during Reik’s high school career but he feels the experience has prepared him for the next level. He learned to maintain a positive attitude despite any adversity he faced and now he’s ready to play with the same mentality at the next level.

“One of my key takeaways from my high school basketball experience was how to be a leader for my team and compete at a high level,” he said. “I believe this great experience will help me carry this attitude forward to the collegiate level.”
