PERRY–Perry’s softball team had high hopes for the 2020 season.

The Pirates had won back-to-back district titles and returned a dugout full of standout players.

COVID changed all of that and now the Pirates are on the verge of stepping up to the plate for the first time since falling to new Chagrin Valley Conference rival Crestwood in a regional semifinal on May 22, 2019.

The Pirates completed tryouts on Wednesday and are eager to start the spring season.
