Talley, Bailey shine in Harvey’s win at Chagrin Falls

Nya Talley was 3-for-3 with a double and Alexa Bailey struck out 11 in leading Harvey to a 4-1 win at Chagrin Falls on Tuesday.

Talley doubled and stole three bases in the win.

“Nya terrorized Chagrin on the base paths,” said Harvey coach Betsy Hada. “She gets aggressive leads and her heads-up base running put us on the board today and helped us bring home a key conference win.”

Chagrin Falls took a 1-0 lead in the third when Caitlin Larkin reached on an error with two outs and moved to third on Lexie Kaseler’s single. Camille Paoletta then singled to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Harvey took the lead for good in the top of the fourth.

Lola Thomas opened the inning with a single and advanced to second on the throw, but the Tigers retired the next two Red Raider batters. Thomas, who tagged up to third on a fly-out, scored on Talley’s second hit of the game. Adrienne DiPierro then singled home Talley to give the Red Raiders a 2-1 advantage.

Talley’s leadoff double in the seventh led to two insurance runs.

DiPierro, who finished the day 2-for-3, followed Talley’s two-bagger with an infield single and both runners moved up on a double steal. Talley scored on a passed ball and DiPierro crossed the plate on Bailey’s single.

“Adrienne was seeing the ball very well today,” Hada said. “She came up big in clutch situations. Her base hit in the fourth drove in a momentum-changing RBI.”

Bailey allowed one unearned run on three hits and fanned 11 with five walks.

Sophia Moffa also had a hit for Chagrin Falls.
