VASJ qualifies for regional track in nine events

    -

The Villa Angela-St. Joseph track team will be well represented at the Division III Navarre regionals.

The Vikings qualified for regionals in nine events at the D-III Independence District meet on May 22.

VASJ freshman Kynadi Byers was second in the 100M, and was part of the district championship 4×100 relay and the regional qualifying 4X200 relay. Dena Pullem, Jordan Walker, Taylor Parker and Byers made up the winning 4×100 team with a time of 52.38.

“It is a lot, but I want to take it all in and run better the rest of my high school career,” Byers said. “I was confident. As far as the 4X100, I trust my teammates and we did well. We qualified in the 4X200 relay as well. I just want to keep working hard and keep going faster.”

Toni Beuck qualified individually for the regionals in the 400M and was anchor for the 4X200 relay that took third at the district along with Byers, Walker and Angela Zamora.

On the boys side, Jacob Stauffer had a personal record of 148-7 to win the district title in the discus.

“It was a huge step for me making it out of districts after being one spot out the last two years,” Stauffer said. “I had an idea of what I could do if I threw well, but I was very happy with the way I threw today.”

LaRon Jones qualified for regionals in the 100M with a third place finish in the district and was part of the 4X200 relay that also is headed for Navarre with Andre George, Gaston Dowdley and John Hearn. The VASJ 4X100 relay with Tre’Shon Walker-Smith, Hearn, Jones and Dowdley finished second with a run of 45.07.
