Division V Regional Final — Ravenna

Kirtland’s pursuit of a Final Four appearance ended against one of Ohio’s most dominant small-school programs.

Chippewa (19-0-1) received three goals from and defeated the Hornets, 3-0, to advance to the state semifinals.

The loss ended Kirtland’s season at 17-5-1, but it did little to diminish another impressive postseason run that included a district championship and a third consecutive appearance in the Elite Eight.

The Hornets entered Saturday’s regional final having survived two challenging tournament contests.

Kirtland needed penalty kicks to defeat New Middletown Springfield in the district championship before rallying from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Orrville, 3-1, in the regional semifinals.

Against Chippewa, the challenge was even greater.

Marshall opened the scoring in the 24th minute, giving the Chipps a 1-0 advantage they carried into halftime.

Kirtland continued to battle and remained within striking distance well into the second half.

Marshall eventually broke through again in the 62nd minute and completed her hat trick in the 74th to seal the victory.

Kirtland goalkeeper finished with seven saves.

Kirtland’s season ended one victory short of the Final Four, but the Hornets again demonstrated the consistency that has defined the program’s recent success.
