Area golfers produced a big day at sectional tournaments on Sept. 28, with six covered teams advancing to districts and several individuals extending their seasons.

Four sectional tournaments over three days will determine which area girls golf teams and individuals continue their postseason runs.

Kirtland’s Maggie Kothera earned medalist honors with an 86 while Independence placed five golfers among the top seven and shot a 382 to capture the CVC Chagrin Division postseason championship at Punderson.

Marisa Mudra shot a medalist 45 as Independence swept the top four individual spots in a girls golf victory over Lutheran West.

Jamie Tresp fired a career-low 34 to earn medalist honors as Independence girls golf defeated Lutheran West, 167-194, on Thursday.

Independence and Edgewood remain unbeaten, while Chagrin Falls and Chardon share the lead in the early CVC girls golf standings.

Independence’s golf teams found success on Monday as both the girls' and boys' teams defeated Lutheran West in matches at two different courses.

The Lutheran West girls’ golf team returns four starters from last year’s squad that finished 4-7-1 in league play and 4-10-1 overall.

Independence shot its lowest tournament score of the season in finishing 13th at their Blue Devil Invitational on Saturday at Shawnee Hills Golf Course.

Independence finished second to Laurel at the Division II Sable Creek District Tournament and will return to the state championships for the third time in the last five seasons.

Independence defeated visiting Lutheran West on Tuesday, 164-174, in a battle of unbeaten teams.

Independence and Lutheran West were among the smallest schools at the Midwest Classic on Saturday but the Blue Devils and Longhorns both finished among the top 11 at the prestigious tournament.
