After one of the most successful seasons in program history, the Edgewood Boys Golf team enters 2026 with a very different look—but the expectations haven’t changed.
The Warriors graduated all five varsity starters from last year’s squad that finished 12-1 overall and 9-1 in the Chagrin Valley Conference Lake Division, capturing the CVC Lake Division championship, the Division II sectional title, and advancing as a team to the district tournament for the first time since 1986.

Second-year head coach Ben Frable knows replacing that experience won’t be easy, but he likes the commitment he’s seen from a young group eager to continue the program’s momentum.
“Our goal will always be to compete for a CVC Lake Division Title and have a good showing at the OHSAA Sectionals Tournament,” Frable said.
Leading the way is junior Connor Penny, the lone returning starter. Penny earned First Team All-CVC honors, was named First Team All-Ashtabula County, and received the team’s Most Improved Golfer award after averaging 39 over nine holes and 85 over 18 holes. More importantly, he gained valuable postseason experience by competing at districts.

“Connor is our leader this year,” Frable said. “He gained very valuable experience last year playing in the district tournament, and hopefully he can get back to that tournament. I’m excited to see him take that next step this year.”
Sophomore Jackson Heinbaugh also returns after earning a varsity letter and has dedicated significant time to improving his game during the offseason.
“Jackson has played a lot of golf this summer,” Frable said. “I’m eager to see him provide good scores for the team.”
Another sophomore expected to make an impact is Michael Brydle, who continues to develop after picking up the sport.
“Michael is another younger golfer that is finding his game in his second year playing golf and looks to contribute on the varsity level,” Frable said.
The Warriors will also rely on Zane Scheanon, Lucas Bisbee, Seve Ponteri, Carter Woodring, Kolton Stern, and Carson Allshouse as they compete for spots in the varsity lineup.
With so much inexperience, consistency will determine how far Edgewood can go this fall.
“We had five varsity starters graduate from last year’s team that had a historic season, winning a sectional title for the first time since 1986,” Frable said. “This means our younger golfers will need to step up. Some of them were on the team last year and know what it will take to replace them. I have been impressed with their willingness to be on the course to get better. We will need them to become more consistent in their scoring.”
If Edgewood’s young golfers mature quickly around Penny’s leadership, the Warriors have a chance to remain among the contenders in the CVC Lake Division while building the foundation for another successful postseason run.
