While much of Northeast Ohio’s baseball schedule was washed away by heavy rain and unplayable fields, Gilmour Academy and Beachwood were among the few teams able to get a game completed Friday.
The Lancers made the most of the opportunity.
Sean Pitrone and Ryan Smithley each homered as Gilmour baseball pulled away late for an 8-2 victory over Beachwood baseball, improving to 9-6 on the season. The Bison dropped to 7-5.
After Beachwood cut the deficit to 2-1 in the third inning and 4-2 in the fifth, Gilmour responded with a four-run sixth inning to put the game away.
Pitrone finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs, and a home run, while Smithley added a solo homer and two RBIs. Tyler Pozsgai continued a strong day at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a run scored.
