    Hornets win back-to-back CVC titles

    PERRY–Kirtland’s girls’ cross country team on Saturday defended its Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division title at the Perry Outdoor YMCA.

    The Hornets, who won the league title last fall for the first time since 2006 and now, they won back-to-back titles for the first time since 1999-2000.

    Reilly Greenlee paced the Hornets with a time of 22:20, good for fifth place overall. Ainsley Borthwick also earned first-team All-Conference honors by finishing among the top eight with a time of 22:21, good for sixth overall.

    Stephanie Drazetic, Delaney Kuczkowski, and Josie Copeland all ran their way to second-team All-CVC honors by finishing among the top 16.

    Drazetic placed ninth with a time of 22:51, Kuczkowski was 14th in 24:06, and Copeland placed 15th in 24:17.

    Claire Dumstorff (27th, 25:52) and Brynn Bradac (28th, 25:55) both earned honorable mention all-conference honors.

    Kirtland’s boys’ team placed eighth as a team.

    Ian Borthwick placed 14th in 19:15 to earn second-team All-CVC honors and Brigham Weight and Warren Eveland both claimed honorable mention honors. Weight finished 19th in 19:38 while Eveland crossed the finish line in 21:55 to place 43rd.

    Jeremy Mrva (22:12), Luke Emlaw (23:49), and Niko Petrunic (24:09) also ran for the Hornets.

    Haley Adams is a 2016 graduate of Cardinal High School. She is currently in her third year at Hiram College with a major in Communications and a minor in Writing. Haley, a three-sport standout at Cardinal, has participated in many athletic events at Hiram and plans to become a sports broadcaster.
