North rolls past Valley Forge, 42-0, to improve to 2-0

North improved to 2-0 with a dominant 42-0 win at Valley Forge as Josh Fenick scored twice and threw a touchdown pass.

Two weeks into the season, the North Football team has already given opponents plenty to think about.

The Rangers followed up their 51-17 season-opening road win at North Olmsted with another dominant performance Friday night, rolling to a 42-0 victory at Valley Forge to improve to 2-0.

North’s offense continued to control games on the ground, while the defense turned in its first shutout of the season.

“Actually, all three phases are playing really well,” North coach said. “We’ve just been fortunate to be able to run it pretty well the last couple of weeks. We’ll have to mix it up at some point, but right now the guys up front on both sides are doing a nice job.”

accounted for three of North’s six touchdowns, rushing for two scores and throwing another.

Fenick said the Rangers entered the season believing they were capable of a strong start.

“The season has been really fun,” Fenick said. “We came in confident and ready to go after it every day in practice. We’ve been working hard, and it’s been a lot of fun.”

Fenick’s running style was on display again Friday as North continued to lean on a physical ground game.

“When I heard the play call, I knew I was getting the ball, and I wasn’t going to stop my feet unless I scored or hit the ground,” Fenick said. “I found the hole, hit it hard, and kept running. I always run until I hit the back of the end zone.”

North did not attempt a pass in its Week 1 victory at North Olmsted, but the Rangers showed Valley Forge that ignoring the passing game could be dangerous.

Fenick completed his lone pass attempt to for a touchdown.

“We were one-for-one with a touchdown throw today, so despite what everybody thinks, we can throw the ball,” Dodd joked.

Fenick welcomed the opportunity to show another dimension of the offense.

“I’ve always been confident that I can throw,” Fenick said. “I knew teams probably wouldn’t respect the pass until we showed them we could do it. We can run the ball, but you can’t sleep on the pass because we always have it as an option.”

As productive as the offense has been through two weeks, Dodd was particularly pleased with what happened on the other side of the football.

North’s defense kept Valley Forge off the scoreboard and controlled the line of scrimmage throughout the game.

“Our guys up front dominated,” Dodd said. “Those guys rotate a little bit to keep fresh, and they absolutely dominated up front.”

The Rangers also continued to create turnovers. After recording two interceptions in the Week 1 victory at North Olmsted, North came away with another interception Friday.

The combination of a punishing running game, a defense controlling the line of scrimmage, and an occasional passing threat has helped North open the season with consecutive road victories.

For Fenick, the formula is straightforward.

North came into the season confident, committed to its work and prepared to play physical football.

Through two weeks, the results have followed.
