North Travels to Stow-Munroe Falls for Division II District Semifinal

North travels to Stow-Munroe Falls Tuesday for a Division II district semifinal matchup with a district finals berth on the line.

Two teams carrying momentum into the postseason will square off Tuesday when No. 20 travels to No. 16 Stow-Munroe Falls in a Division II Region 5 district semifinal.

The winner advances to face either No. 2 Amherst Steele or No. 31 Max Hayes on Wednesday at Brunswick with a district championship on the line.

North enters at 13-12 after winning three straight games, including a 5-4 postseason victory over Twinsburg. The Rangers have averaged 6.5 runs per game this season and enter the district semifinal batting .293 as a team with a .409 on-base percentage and a .388 slugging percentage.

Stow-Munroe Falls counters with momentum of its own after erupting for a 17-1 victory over Louisville in tournament play. The Bulldogs enter at 10-14 overall and have relied heavily on pitching depth and aggressive baserunning throughout the season.

Rangers’ Offense Faces Bulldogs’ Frontline Pitching

North’s offense is led by , who enters the postseason batting .444 with a .538 on-base percentage and a .611 slugging percentage. Grinstead has collected 32 hits, 24 RBIs, and eight doubles while serving as one of the Rangers’ most consistent offensive producers throughout the spring.

gives North another dangerous middle-of-the-order bat. Pennza enters batting .403 with a .477 on-base percentage and a .597 slugging percentage while totaling 29 hits, 18 RBIs, four doubles, two triples, and two home runs.

North also gets production from , who has delivered three home runs, 26 runs scored, 18 RBIs, six doubles, and 11 stolen bases this season.

That lineup will be tested by one of the stronger pitching staffs remaining in the district bracket.

Stow-Munroe Falls is led by , who owns a 1.37 ERA across 46 innings while striking out 34 hitters and walking only four. has added a 1.73 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 24.1 innings, while carries a 1.40 ERA, and has yet to allow an earned run in 15.2 innings.

The Bulldogs enter Tuesday with a team ERA below 3.00 and have consistently kept games manageable with pitching depth and run prevention.

Bulldogs Look to Pressure North With Speed and Timely Hitting

While Stow-Munroe Falls does not match North statistically at the plate, the Bulldogs have shown an ability to create offense through aggressive baserunning and situational hitting.

leads the Bulldogs offensively with a .404 batting average, 23 hits, 13 RBIs, five doubles, and a .579 slugging percentage.

is batting .317 with 19 hits, 16 RBIs, and six doubles while also stealing seven bases. adds another speed element after totaling 17 hits, 11 RBIs, two triples, one home run, and 10 stolen bases.

The Bulldogs have consistently applied pressure on the bases throughout the season, with Callahan and both adding seven stolen bases entering postseason play.

That offensive approach will be tested by a North pitching staff led by , who owns a 1.50 ERA entering postseason play. has added important innings with a 4.48 ERA, while carries a 4.88 ERA and gives the Rangers another experienced arm capable of working key innings.

North’s pitching staff will need to avoid allowing Stow-Munroe Falls to build early momentum offensively, especially on the road. The Rangers have been at their best lately when controlling tempo and forcing opponents to play from behind.

Keys to Victory

For North, the key is turning its offensive advantage into early runs.

The Rangers have the stronger overall lineup statistically, and Grinstead, Pennza, and Rolf give North multiple ways to generate offense. If the Rangers can pressure Stow-Munroe Falls early and force the Bulldogs away from their pitching-driven approach, North could control the pace of the game.

For Stow-Munroe Falls, pitching and baserunning will be critical.

The Bulldogs have the frontline arms capable of keeping the game close, while Garcia, Callahan, and Boyd give Stow-Munroe Falls enough offensive production to capitalize on mistakes. If the Bulldogs can limit extra-base damage and create pressure on the bases, they can put themselves in position to advance.

With a district finals berth at stake, Tuesday’s matchup sets up as North’s offensive depth against Stow-Munroe Falls’ pitching and speed.
