Fischer Fires 34 as Chagrin Falls Rolls Past Chardon

Peter Fischer shot a match-low 34 and Chagrin Falls swept the top five spots in a 151-176 win over Chardon to remain in the CVC race.

There was no shortage of low numbers on the team’s side of the scorecard Monday.

provided the lowest of them all.

Fischer fired a match-low 34, and the Tigers claimed each of the top five individual scores on their way to a convincing 151-176 victory over .

The win improved Chagrin Falls to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in conference play, keeping the Tigers within striking distance in the league standings ahead of Wednesday’s important matchup with West Geauga. Chardon dropped to 3-5 overall and 3-4 in league play.

“This was a big momentum win for the team, especially since our six came in clutch with a great round,” Fischer said. “It gives us a ton of confidence going into Wednesday against West G.”

Fischer set the tone with his 34, but this was hardly a one-man performance.

followed with a 37, shot 39, finished with a 41, and carded a 42.

That gave Chagrin Falls the five lowest rounds of the match.

Even the Tigers’ sixth golfer, , contributed a 46, providing the kind of depth Fischer believes can become increasingly important as the season moves closer to the postseason.

Despite the importance of the match and Chagrin Falls’ position in the standings, Fischer said the Tigers weren’t chasing a particular team score as they made their way around the course.

“I think we were just playing our game and keeping our mind off of the score at the end and more so the shot we were hitting,” Fischer said.

That approach certainly worked for Fischer.

His 34 was fueled by an exceptional finish on the greens.

“I think my putting was a big part of my game today,” Fischer said. “I managed to one-putt the last five holes and have two of them for birdie.”

The round also pushed Fischer even higher among the area’s best golfers.

His 34 moved him into second place on the boys golf nine-hole leaderboard. Golfers can follow the area’s top reported scores throughout the season on the Ohio Varsity boys golf leaderboard.

Fischer had already established himself among the leaderboard contenders earlier this season, including a 37 against South. Monday’s round shaved three more strokes from that performance.

The timing couldn’t be much better.

With the postseason approaching, Fischer believes knowing exactly where his game stands — and what is working — can become a significant advantage.

“It’s really exciting, especially since the postseason is coming around the corner,” Fischer said. “Knowing where my game is is key to my score being low.”

Chardon was led by and , who each shot 43. and both finished at 45, while added a 46 and shot 47.

Chagrin Falls won’t have much time to celebrate Monday’s victory.

The Tigers turn their attention directly to West Geauga on Wednesday, a match that carries even greater significance in the conference race.

But after putting five golfers ahead of Chardon’s top finisher and posting a 151 team score, the Tigers will head into that showdown with exactly what Fischer hoped Monday could provide them.

Momentum.
